An excellent well organised trip run by a very confident able leader who was familiar with all the important botanical sites. So I will seriously consider using the same company in the future."

The ten days we spent with Başak in north-eastern Turkey were an exceptional botanical adventure. Advertised as ‘Lilies of the Black Sea’ we certainly saw six different lilies, all at their peak flowering times, in addition to a very deep purple Fritillaria, two Gageas and five Ornithogalums, but a whole spectrum of other plant families with spectacular members, besides the Lilies.
The upland meadows were all different from each other, with a vast richness of species: we had 13 species of Campanula on the list, including a white-flowered one, six species of Silene and 9 of Salvia. It was a botanical heaven!
The accommodation was variable, but always comfortable and the staff friendly and accommodating…We were never in danger of going hungry.
Our Turkish experience was unique and differed from previous botanical holidays in Europe opening my eyes to a much more middle-eastern influence to the plants and culture; the personal care and attention to detail provided by our lovely guide, Başak, made the holiday special and memorable.

"Hi Chris and Basak, Just to "thank you" for a really memorable trip to Turkey. Some of the sights will remain with me for a very long time, especially the displays of Iris and Tulips.....and for going the extra mile to find plants when the preferred site was still deep under snow! Looking forward hugely to my next trip. PS. I did find your co-authored "Plant Hunters" book in my book case, I hadn't recognised the names on the cover until you mentioned it. It will reward re-reading!"

"Early April, 2015, we did ViraNatura’s Lycia Wildflowers Tour, hiking to see a great variety of blooming flowers, shrubs, and trees, in habitats from the edge of the sea, up into forests and meadows, even mountain ridges. In all locations, Basak Gardner was able to find beautiful, fascinating flowers and plants. Always a gracious guide, her English language is excellent. The lodging, meals, and companionship were comfortable and enjoyable. We recommend you follow the ancient paths of Lycia with ViraNatura for a fine experience."

"We were obviously very fortunate with the weather but in truth that was only the icing on the cake because the quality of the holiday was uniformly excellent. The level of knowledge that was made available to us was outstanding. The days provided a good combination of walking, observation and indulgence.
The itinerary was really well chosen to give us a very interesting range of habitats as well as stunningly beautiful views. We really enjoyed the high meadows but the coastal days were equally dazzling.
The logistics were thoughtfully planned and very well executed and the accommodation was of a good standard and reflected local culture and atmosphere. All people involved were helpful, friendly and efficient.
Initially I was a little bit indifferent to the cooking day (or perhaps hadn’t really taken it in), but the experience was a real highlight (setting, people and the pleasure of cooking and eating the food).
Your identification of all my photos was absolutely above and beyond what I could have expected."
